New Chemical Reactivity via Organic Photoredox Catalysis

We are an organic group in the Department of Chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill that focuses on new reaction development by harnessing the power of organic photoredox catalysis. Our goal is to develop broadly useful chemical transformations that utilize simple feedstock materials that have value to various sectors including pharmaceutical, agrochemical and materials research.

Organic Photoredox Catalysis

We study the use of organic molecules in the excited state to accomplish single electron redox chemistry

New Reaction Development

We seek to develop new sustainable chemical reactivity from common organic feedstocks

Mechanistic Inquiry

We use a variety of analytical techniques to study mechanism in photoredox reactions.

Natural Product Synthesis

Applications of organic photoredox catalysis to natural product synthesis (coming soon…)

Positron Emission Tomography

We collaborate with Professor Zibo Li (UNC Radiology) to apply organic photoredox catalysis to radiolabeling and imaging
